We're looking for software engineers that want to contribute to the future of bioprocessing. This role is for multi-disciplinary people that like to operate on the intersection of different technologies. No specific credentials required, only talent.
About Formical
We believe we can become the first sustainable generation on Earth. Biotechnology plays a key role in this future - benefiting all people, animals, and our planet by making industrial production more sustainable. But bioprocessing still runs on fragmented data and tacit knowledge. The infrastructure to turn data into the intelligence that teams need to scale doesn't exist yet, hindering the sector’s progress. Formical accelerates bioprocessing by connecting fragmented data, enabling predictive modeling, and ultimately closing the loop between measurement and action.
What you’ll contribute
Full-stack product engineering. Building features by designing a clean UX down to building the database. Your experience with a specific stack matters less than the ability to pick one up fast.
Data engineering. Building resilient data pipelines for large volumes of high-frequency time series data, as well as unstructured data like text and images. You’ll design efficient schemas that are easy to understand and maintain.
Connecting with low-level systems. Bridging the gap between software and physical equipment by dissecting 200+ pages of flawed hardware docs to safely build a (bi-directional) connection between PLCs and IT infrastructure.
Applied ML and data science. Building the infrastructure for users to effectively apply statistical, mechanistic or ML-driven modeling on their own data.
AI-augmented engineering. You push the limits of AI agents as a core part of your workflow. Know how to decompose problems so AI contributes meaningfully, and how to verify what it produces.
You don't need expert-level depth in all domains today, only the demonstrated ability to close gaps fast. You don’t need experience with every tool, but this is the stack we’re working with now: TypeScript, React, Express.JS, TimescaleDB/Postgres, Python, Azure, Docker, GitHub Actions.

We expect you to join us at least 2 days per week in our office in Delft.
